ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Steve Knight is a state and national powerlifting champion, and in 1982, at the US National Powerlifting Championships, while lifting in the 181 lb. weight class, set an Oregon state record in the squat of 722 lbs. that still stands today.

Steve’s experience with executing big lifts on the big stage, along with working with thousands of athletes over a 40-year career is what drives the WINNING STATE mission: “To bring mental toughness and composure to every athlete in the world.”

Steve believes that the mental side of competing is the next big deal in sports, and that mental-toughness training (and coaching) will become essential components to athletic departments everywhere.

In 2002, Steve went back to school to study communication theory with the express purpose of acquiring visual-storytelling techniques to help explain how to handle pressure. He eventually earned a BA in communication studies (with honors) from Portland State University.

Steve works one-on-one with individuals and teams at every level. To get in touch email: steve (at) winningstate (dot) com, or use the Contact Us form.

COMPETE MENTALLY TOUGH!

WINNING STATE Mental Toughness Books

The #1 Mental Toughness Books In Sports

OUR MISSION SINCE 2002:

TO BRING MENTAL TOUGHNESS AND COMPOSURE TO EVERY ATHLETE IN THE WORLD

WINNING STATE teaches athletes how to handle pressure.

Our goal is to change lives. Our goal is to provide athletes with a rock-solid mental game to compete mentally tough and win.

We teach athletes that doubt is the enemy, not nerves, and that mental toughness, not confidence is what we draw on under pressure to keep our wits and execute with conviction.

We teach athletes that winning is mental, not physical, and that no one “deserves” to win. We must take it! We show athletes how to coach themselves up to silence the fear of blowing it and instead believe they have what it takes to succeed. Athletes learn how to "flip the switch" to get tough, stay focused, and execute with authority.
